Little Britches & The Sand Fairy

The Greatest Adventure Ever
Once upon a time there was a rogue outlaw named little britches. An untamable wild man with tattoos and an unquenchable thirst for adventure. He rode the trains robbing rail cars of all their money. Building up muscles and taking on the world with his best friend Kevin…aka the dark avenger… aka the best friend a man could ever have. aka the beast….aka his faithful side kick…aka The Dog, the only dog the greatest dog known to man.
One day as Little Britches rode atop a train car racing into the sunset he began to contemplate his life, where it was going, what he was doing and the man he wanted to be. He was wild at heart and realized that this life was slowing changing him. Soon it would hold him captive and take away his freedom so He raised his eyes to the Mountains, to the wild High King, the maker of adventure and he began to ask for a new adventure. The greatest adventure of his life.
In his mind it looked like living in far off exotic places with strange food, dark haired people and death around every corner…that and teaching English as a second language. The only problem was that his faithful sidekick kevin did not have his magical power of flight so this adventure he would have to ride solo. He sold everything in preparation for his epic journey…the one He had told the High King about.
Just before he left he found himself in a strange place of black hills, fairy gold and magical moonlight bewitching. A place he hadn’t seen since his childhood. People here only knew him as little britches the kid aka Bud aka Tim, not the outlaw he had become. In those days he had wanted to grow up to be a cowboy, to rope and ride and steal young girls’ hearts. But the trains had taken him on different journeys and he was just finding his way back home.
One of the warrior girls there, aka me, aka Crystal Aka cassie’s sister talked him into joining her prayer battalion. The two found themselves stationed at a rock out crop overlooking a nearby pond. They were on duty, praying over the camp, watching for enemies and catching up on life. Just then a vision in white (the warrior Cassie) came dancing out of the woods. Leading a trail of children behind her. The warrior girl watched her sister below and without turning her head said to the Outlaw, ‘Will you marry my sister?’ Tim paused for a moment and then said. ‘Yeah I can do that’
‘Ok will you marry my sister this year?’
‘How about in Ten years?
‘How about in two years?
‘How about in five years he bantered?
‘A compromise was reached somewhere around three years and the dancing girl slipped back into the woods unaware that her fate had been sealed.
That night as the outlaw was walking back to his hideout he saw something magical, The cutest fairy he had ever seen. They say the hills are filled with fairies and if you catch one dancing in the moonlight you’ll be theirs forever. But he didn’t know that. He was just an outlaw. So when he saw her white dress spinning as she twirled in the silver moon beams dancing upon the bridge he could only stop and stare. Surely that was not Cassie the girl he had known all his life…the girl who had danced out of the woods earlier that day…surely she was not a fairy princess…little did he know the true adventure his heart was stepping into.
He watched her for he didn’t know how long smiling at her beauty and joy. He didn’t realize that she had seen him and turned back into her mortal self until she hugged him, her old friend, and he shook his head thinking he must have seen a dream.
Somehow when she hugged him she didn’t want to let go, like she was made to nestle in those rippling biceps, but neither thought much of it at the moment.
That week the outlaw learned that Cassie, who apparently had a secret fairy identity, had come to the Black hills to meet with the High King and talk about the missions He had sent her on. She was a sand fairy leader of little people back in the magical kingdom of the Sandhills, but her heart was growing weary of leading and living all alone. The joy he had seen that night had just been restored to her in that magical moonlit dancing with her king. Sometimes she worried that she was becoming hard, falling under the spell of closing off her heart to hope. ITs a battle all single women who desire to be married have. How to hope and still survive. Sometimes becoming strong and hard is all you can do. But after her time in prayer and dancing with the High King her hope and joy were restored and she was feeling recharged to return to her little people.
Now when it came to the great romance of the Sand Fairy Cassie Mulloy, the world was in a quandary. Nothing was wrong with her, yet… Never had she let her heart go. Never had a cowboy from her world been able to capture and ride her off into the sunset. In fact she had never even held hands before.
When the tenderhearted Outlaw Little Britches heard about this tragedy, he felt bad for her, being the chivalrous man he was, he reached over and held her hand. Later when they were stargazing he held it again and while butterflies didn’t come and the world didn’t explode in fireworks somehow neither one wanted to let go. But it was nothing.
Sand Fairy Cassie had known Little Britches for so long he was not on her radar as a potential. Even when he held her hand, she knew it was nothing and When he put his arms around her and she wanted to stay there forever she knew it was nothing… but when she saw him caring for those around them with kindness and love she thought surely this man is not an outlaw, but a cowboy of the most upstanding king.
However, and alas, he was leaving. Her outlaw that she new was her cowboy was about to ride away with her heart….and he did.
I could say there was a great battle to win her but he was the sun and she was like warm butter in his unknowing hands. SO Little Britches rode off into the sunset leaving his sidekick Kevin to watch over his fairy Princess. Poor Poor Kevin. Little did Kevin know that death awaited him at every turn. Cassie was a sand fairy of little people…not dogs. But two miracles happened she did fall in love with Kevin and he survived his summer with her.
Meanwhile Little Britches’s ‘greatest adventure ever, while being awesome, did not go quite as planned and to the delight of the Sand Fairy Cassie he found himself returning to her kingdom. Would he fall in love with her or return to his solo adventures.
Lets just say at some point he found himself holding hands with his fairy princess and wrapping his arms around her while they danced under the stars. There was a moment when they gazed into the magic of each others eyes…she transformed back into her fairy self and suddenly she was the sun and he was butter in her hands. Today she sings…tonight Cowboy you are mine and little Britches, no longer an outlaw has finally found his greatest adventure.
So now! let me introduce to you Little Britches the former outlaw AKA the Cowboy fondly called Tim and His fairy princess the warrior in white AKA Cassie. So to my fairy Princess sister and the cowboy who is riding her off into the sunset I pray that God wraps HIs arms around you and your days are filled with joy and laughter. I pray you continue to bring out the best in each other and continue to love and cherish one another. I pray you remember your hope and joy are in Jesus and that you two together keep falling more and more in love with Jesus and each other ….and that you have lots of kids!!
love you both!!
Crystal
